What is house hacking?
Heard of house hacking? Yes, no, maybe so? In short, it’s this: Finding creative ways to make money with your Atlanta area home.
Back in the day, it meant buying a multifamily property, living in one unit, and renting out the rest. A lot of smart folks do this when starting out - I wish I had! It’s a great way to basically live without a mortgage payment, as your tenant’s rent usually covers most or all of it. While this still definitely works, it’s no longer your only option. Here are a few other house hacking ideas:
Rent out rooms in your home as short-term rentals. A basement area that is separate from your living space would be perfect for this.
Don’t mind roommates? Find some (nice and neat!) and charge a fair market rent.
Build a standalone apartment or cottage to rent out on your property. The beauty of this is that it also adds value to your property. A tiny house would also be a great solution. Make sure you check with your local Atlanta codes.
Rent out a garage or your unfinished basement for folks to store vehicles and other items.
